Who Is Central Buses?

Central Buses has been family owned and operated since 1985, serving the families of Sullivan County in Tennessee. We provide transportation to and from school for the area elementary, middle and high schools. We also provide transportation for school field trips as well as sporting events. Our main goal, is to make sure our children stay safe.

Our on-site mechanics and mechanic assistants work diligently to make sure all the buses traveling on the road are safe and in proper working order. Any issues that arise are addressed immediately and cared for as needed. All buses are inspected by the Tennessee Department of Transportation according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements. Inspections are done annually with random inspections done throughout the year. Not only do they care for the mechanics of the bus, but also for the appearance and any emergency equipment needed such as fire extinguisher, first aid kit and bodily fluid spill kit.

Our drivers undergo extensive background checks and driving record checks before employed and annually thereafter. Drug tests are given before employment and randomly throughout the year as well as anytime one might be required. We have in-house training for our employees as well as any refresher courses that might be needed or requested. Our drivers are usually the first smiling face the children see in the morning and sometimes the last smiling face of the day before returning home, so we want it to be pleasant. Our drivers are also responsible for keeping the inside of the bus picked up and swept and looking neat and clean after all the children are off.

Our office staff works extensively behind the scenes to make sure any new children riding the bus are given to the correct bus driver and the driver is aware of the stop. They are also responsible for answering phones, making sure all routes are covered should there be an absence, covering field trips, making sure route sheets are up-to-date and many many more things.

Our discipline manager works closely with our drivers and school personnel to make sure that discipline is handled in an appropriate manner. This requires investigating write-ups, watching film, speaking with drivers and reporting the facts to the school.

It takes all of us working closely together daily to keep this well oiled machine running smoothly. Some days are tougher than others, but we all work together to get our main goal accomplished, keeping our children safe. To the outside, our job might look easy, but on the inside, there is a lot that happens to make it work.
